A new collaboration agreement signed among the regional educational networks

An Executive Meeting of the different Nuclear Education Networks, held at the University of Manchester School of Physics and Astronomy in the UK last 26 February – 3 March 2017, saw a gathering of representatives from the various national and regional groups. They were the Asian Network for Education in Nuclear Technology (ANENT), the Latin-American Network for Education in Nuclear Technology (LANENT), the AFRA- Network for Education in Nuclear Science and Technology (AFRA-NEST), the European Nuclear Education Network Association (ENEN) and the Regional Network for Education and Training in Nuclear Technology - STAR-NET, Nuclear Technology Education Consortium (NTEC), Belgian Nuclear higher Education Network (BNEN) and the University Network of Excellence in Nuclear Engineering (UNENE). The ANENT was represented by Ms Youngmi Nam of the Republic of South Korea. She brought with her the ANENT’s suggested potential areas of cooperation and activities for the action plan as agreed upon during a previous online discussion among ANENT members

The executive meeting sought to facilitate capacity building and sustainable education and training on nuclear science and technology. The different representatives gave presentations on the status of their networks. Ms Nam, in her presentation, reported about ANENT’s Learning Management System being moved to a cloud supporting system, on the progress of the Internet Research Laboratory (IRL) project, and details of the upcoming coordination meeting in May in Japan and the Outreach workshop in September in Thailand. She also informed the group that the ANENT is in the process of developing two guideline documents.

The primary focus of the meeting was on finalizing and signing of the new collaboration agreement and action plan agreed among the five regional educational networks – ANENT, LANENT, AFRA-NEST, ENEN and STARNET. The scope of the agreement comprises three main areas of cooperation, namely, HRD, outreach, and educational tools and technology. As the AFRA-NEST representative was absent, the rest of four executives have agreed to facilitate their communication through various channels such as common space, video-conferencing and face-to-face meeting. They also agreed to promote mutual networks by exchanging contact points and information about the events. Ms Nam signed the Agreement on behalf of the ANENT (photo).

Following the previous cooperation agreement signed among the four regional educational networks in September 2013, this new agreement becomes the second in a series welcoming the fifth partner network, STAR-NET. The final version of the new common Action Plan will be shared with all members.
