Launch of a new four-year project to boost e-learning in the Asian region

The Asian Network for Education in Nuclear Technology (ANENT) will be enhanced by a new four-year IAEA Technical Cooperation (TC) regional project that supports the ANENT activities. Endorsed in January 2016, the project will not only promote the utilization of nuclear science and technology, but also enhance institutional capacity-building in Asia and the Pacific region through strengthening the education, training and outreach programmes.   Its reference is RAS/0/075 “Networking for Nuclear Education, Training, and Outreach Programme in Nuclear Science and Technology in the Framework of ANENT (Asian Network for Education in Nuclear Technology)”.

Established in 2004, ANENT provides a framework as well as infrastructure for collaboration among universities, research and development (R&D) organizations and training institutes in the region and is part of the IAEA Nuclear Knowledge Management (NKM) programme.. Currently, nineteen member countries are engaged, supported by their government. The new TC regional project was designed and requested by some core members with the assistance of the IAEA.

The expected outputs of the project are:

- The utilization of ANENT Regional LMS will be promoted among the participating Member States;
- The learning subject, curriculum and content in nuclear science and technology will be developed and expanded;
- Collaboration and sharing of information for outreach activities will be put in place and outreach material will be developed accordingly;

- The IAEA Internet Reactor Laboratory (IRL) will be established and its use advanced, essentially the IRL framework, a list of experiments and manuals for a real-time experiment of IRL.

This regional project is open to all interested Member States in Asia and the Pacific region regardless of their ANENT membership. However, the project is aimed to consolidate and enlarge the joint efforts of all participants and achieve the bottom-up of the regional education and training capacity by strengthening cooperation using the existing framework of ANENT.
